Free Community Health Forum: Rheumatoid Arthritis

Maine Coast Memorial Hospital will be hosting a free health education event discussing rheumatoid arthritis (RA) – facts and resources presented by Charles Radis, DO and Karen Hawes, Arthritis Support Network Leader on Monday, March 13, 2017 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the MCMH Classroom. (Door C)

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder that causes the body’s immune system to attack its own tissue, including the joints and joint linings. While RA is a progressive disease that currently cannot be cured, there are a number of treatments and medications that can slow the progress of the disease.

Dr. Charles Radis of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital’s Mary Dow Center will discuss diagnosis, symptoms and treatments, and answer questions from attendees. Arthritis Support Network Leader Karen Hawes will provide information about local support options for people with RA and their families, and discuss how support can help make RA more manageable.
