Office Services

As a general dentist office we can provide a number of services including:
  • Dental Exams: During a routing dental exam the dentist will determine the health of your mouth, jaw, and teeth. The exam helps diagnose any possible problems you may have.
  • X-rays: Dental x-rays of the teeth and jaw, and the tissues around them, help diagnose issues. Maine Coast Community Dental Clinic performs two types of x-rays:
    • Bitewing – show the upper and lower back teeth and how teeth touch one another
    • Panoramic – show the jaw, teeth, and sinuses. Panoramic x-rays do not find cavities but assist in the discovery of impacted teeth, bone defects, cysts, tumors, and infections.
  • Cleanings: A dental hygienist will clean your teeth by scraping hard build up (tartar) off your teeth with a small, metal tool; floss your teeth; polish your teeth to help prevent future build up and coat them with fluoride. You should have your teeth cleaned twice a year.
  • Fluoride Treatments: Teeth are covered in a thing, outer cover called enamel. When bacteria (plaque) forms on your teeth it causes weak spots in your tooth enamel that can lead to cavities, if not treated. Fluoride helps prevent cavities by slowing the breakdown of enamel and making it stronger.
  • Oral Health Education: As the hygienist cleans your teeth they will offer tips on how to better care for them. The hygienist can show you the right way to brush and floss your teeth, tell you what habits can help your teeth, and which can harm them.
  • Sealants: Sealants are a dental material that forms a safe, plastic-like coating on the teeth protecting them from bacteria that can cause cavities.
