Common Dental Terms

Fillings: When you have a cavity, the dentist will remove it and “fill in” the remaining spot. We use both amalgam (silver colored) and composite (tooth colored) fillings.

Extractions: If a tooth is in bad shape and needs to be completely removed, the dentist will extract, or “pull” it out.

Root Canals: Root canals are used to save a tooth that as an infection. The dentist will remove the nerve (center of the tooth), fill it in, and cap it.

Crowns: A crown or cap is used to cover a tooth that has a very large filling, usually from a root canal. RSS
