Orthopedics is the broad based medical and surgical specialty dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. The frequency and impact of these diseases and injuries combined with recent advances in their diagnosis and treatment make orthopedics a critical part of health care.
Our specialty is limited to the care of bones and joints of the arms and legs as well as related structures-nerves, ligaments, tendons, and muscles.
After graduation from an accredited medical school and passing all examinations necessary to receive an unrestricted medical license, our physicians satisfactorily completed five years of graduate orthopedic surgery education in an accredited orthopedic surgery residency program. The residency training included experience with all age groups in operative and non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, diseases and deformities in pediatric orthopedics, total joint and other arthritis surgery, sports medicine, the spine, foot and ankle, elbow and shoulder, hand rehabilitation, fractures and other injuries, benign and malignant tumors of bone, joints and muscles and arthroscopy.
Confidentiality
Your medical records are kept in strict confidence. Unless required by law, no information regarding your condition will be given to your employer, friends or relatives without your permission. For your protection, we will release such information only with your written approval.
Office Hours and Location
Our office is located in Maine Coast Memorial Hospital Medical Office Building. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We can be reached during these hours at 664-5770.
Because this is a surgeon's office, unexpected emergencies and delays do occur. We will make every effort to inform you of any delays before you leave for your appointment, however this is not always possible. We ask for your patience and understanding if there is a delay. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please give our office 24 hours advanced notice, or you may be billed for a missed appointment.
Insurance and Billing
We participate with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maine, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers Comp Champus/Tricare, Healthsource, MedNet, and a few other managed care companies. If we participate with your insurance we will submit a claim to them and receive payment directly from them. We will accept their allowable charges, and bill you for any co-insurance which may apply. If you have an office visit co-pay we will expect you to pay that at the time of service. If you belong to an HMO or PPO type of plan, please remember to contact your primary care physician for a referral prior to your appointment. If you have an insurance which we do not participate with, we ask for payment in full at the time of service. We can submit a claim form for you if you wish, but we cannot provide any follow up on those claims.
We do not file claims and wait for payment from auto insurance or other liability insurance. In these instances we require payment at the time of service and we will provide you with an itemized receipt which you can send to your insurance agent. We understand the accident may not have been your fault, but we cannot be placed in the middle of legal disputes. If your claim is covered by Workers Compensation, we will need a copy of the First Report of Injury which you should have completed with your employer. This has all the necessary information we need in order to file the claim efficiently.
If you have any questions regarding our billing policy, or if you need to make a payment arrangement, please contact our billing department at 664-5495.
