The Mary Dow Center at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital has been developed to provide the community members from Hancock and Washington counties a convenient state of the art treatment facility. Further, it is our goal to provide skilled, compassionate care in a comfortable, non-threatening environment.
The Center provides a setting for you to meet with your physician along with a desirable location in which you can receive your treatments.
The Mary Dow Center is a combined endeavor of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and Eastern Maine Medical Center’s CancerCare of Maine. This treatment Center was created to address the needs of patients, saving them time and the inconvenience of traveling to and from Bangor to receive their treatments. The new Center also provides a local resource center for patients and their families for information and continuity. We continue to expand services at the Mary Dow Center as part of our commitment to bringing care closer to patients with cancer or blood disorders.
About the Center
The Center is conveniently located in the Ellsworth Medical Office Building adjoining the hospital, just off the lobby on the 3rd floor. Our oncologists see and treat patients every Wednesday. Staff nurses trained in oncology are available daily to provide treatment and consultation when appropriate. When you are living with cancer or a blood disorder, you need your questions and concerns addressed quickly. Mary Dow Center understands your need for direct contact and a timely response. Call The Mary Dow Center at 664-5430 to speak directly with a nurse, who will listen and answer your question about symptoms. If we need to contact your physician for further information, be assured the nurse will make sure you receive a prompt resolution.
Emergencies & Urgent Care
Any medical emergency should be transported immediately by ambulance if possible to the nearest emergency room. The Emergency Room at MCMH is open 24 hours a day. They will in turn have someone contact you from the Oncology Center, or call CancerCare of Maine at 973-7478.

Research
Being on the cutting edge of medical technology enables the Mary Dow Center to provide the very best in care for our patients.
The Mary Dow Center for Cancer Care participates in research programs that are critically important in discovering new treatments for cancer and blood disorders. These are national studies conducted with other well known centers such as the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Many of these studies compare best known treatments with new ones that may be even better. Other studies look at new ways of treating or preventing specific cancers. We are proud to have competed for and been named one of the primary centers in the nation for the National Breast Cancer Prevention Trial.
Our Clinical Research Program gives us access to the latest advances in the treatment of cancer and blood disorders. In many cases, patients benefit because they can receive experimental treatments without traveling to far away centers. And by participating in these projects, patients have a chance to help medical science refine new approaches.
We are excited about our ability to offer the most advanced treatment and, at the same time, contribute to the growing body of knowledge about cancer and blood disorders. To find out if you qualify for participation in a clinical research trial, please consult with your physician.
