Unique Gift Offer Provides Support for Healthcare Foundation

 The Foundation’s Trustees enthusiastically accepted the real estate. Executive Director Jack Frost stated, “The Trustees were thrilled that Mr. Hill and Mrs. Ulinski expressed such a strong desire to support the Hospital’s endowment fund”.

Ellsworth, ME, May 18, 2009 – Maine Coast Healthcare Foundation was presented with a very unique gift earlier this month. Alan Hill and Mary Ulinski jointly owned a time-share unit at Acadia Village Resort and agreed to offer this as a charitable donation to the Foundation. The Foundation’s Trustees enthusiastically accepted the real estate. Executive Director Jack Frost stated, “The Trustees were thrilled that Mr. Hill and Mrs. Ulinski expressed such a strong desire to support the Hospital’s endowment fund”. The Foundation’s Gift Acceptance Policies allow for the Trustees to accept a wide-range of assets that individuals and businesses wish to donate. Within three weeks, the Foundation had closed on the sale of the time-share and the proceeds were added to the endowment fund. “Anytime you can advance philanthropy that isn’t characterized as a common gift, such as cash or stock holdings, you have the opportunity to be creative and find ways for the donors and the charity to benefit”, Frost stated.

When speaking with Mrs. Ulinski from her residence in New Mexico, Mary expressed her pleasure with the gifting process. “We enjoyed the time-share for many years but it was time to sell”, explained Mary. “The Foundation is an excellent means to ensure that the people of Hancock County continue to receive extraordinary healthcare. I am so pleased that Alan & I have been able to provide something worthwhile for the community while at the same time honoring my father (Hugh Mackay)”, she stated.

Mr. Frost reports that the level of planned gifts committed to support the Foundation have been astounding and will ultimately advance the endowment fund, providing for annual support to the Hospital for patient care, medical technologies, and facility improvements. “The majority of donors prefer to arrange for a bequest in support of the Foundation, which is representative of what occurs nationally”, explained Mr. Frost.

Maine Coast Healthcare Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide philanthropic support to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. The Foundation was organized five years ago with the goal of building an endowment fund for the Hospital and its affiliated practices located in Hancock County. The Foundation has primarily been focused on promoting planned gifts such as bequests and charitable gift annuities in recent years.
