Maine Coast Healthcare Foundation (MCHF), in partnership with Hospice of Hancock County, SPCA of Hancock County, The Grand, and Woodlawn Museum will present an exclusive screening of the 2007 movie The Ultimate Gift on Sunday, June 1 at 3:00 p.m. at The Grand.
Starring James Garner, Brian Dennehy, and Academy Award-nominated Abigail Breslin, The Ultimate Gift chronicles the journey of a young man (Drew Fuller) after he inherits a fortune from a wealthy, but distant grandfather. Before he can receive his inheritance, Fuller’s character must prove he is worthy of the gift. A series of challenges issued by his grandfather sends him on a soul-changing journey. The film is based on the best-selling book by Jim Stovall.
Attorney Barry Fernald of Fredrikson & Byron, P.A.,
Ellen Pope of Maine Community Foundation,
Sarah Ruef-Lindquist of Planning for Good, and
Sarah Cary Robinson of Bar Harbor Trust Services will lead a brief discussion on what inspires people to give and ways to develop philanthropic capacity within organizations and communities. A wine and cheese reception will follow. Area non-profit leaders, board members, volunteers and all others interested are invited to enjoy the film and share their perspectives on legacy giving.
This screening of The Ultimate Gift is offered in conjunction with the National Committee on Planned Giving’s LEAVE A LEGACY program and is one of hundreds of similar events designed to open dialogue on the topic of legacy giving across the nation. Alan Goldstein, Chair of Maine Coast Healthcare Foundation, organized a similar program in Florida and was eager to bring the discussion to Eastern Maine. “The message is universal and reminds all of us of the importance for planning for one’s own legacy,” stated Goldstein.
