Obstetrics and Gynecology.

organizations, concerts, the ballet and

Constance
Curtin, CNM
Connie has worked in women’s health since
1988, shortly after the homebirth of her
second child in rural New Hampshire. She has
found common ground working with women and
their families in hospital, homebirth, and
clinic settings around New England. That
common ground — that women’s stories hold
the key to who they are — lies behind her
decision to become a certified nurse
midwife, graduating from The Frontier School
of Midwifery in 1999.
The desire for personal growth as well as
seeking more ways to encourage women to
speak from their hearts, minds and bodies
has led Connie to study yoga, body work, and
Mayan Abdominal Massage. She has
incorporated these elements into her
holistic approach to women’s health.
Connie finds peace and joy living on the
Maine coast with her husband. Her children,
who have taught her so much, are pursuing
their interests in colleges on the west
coast and she loves where they have taken
her for the past 21 years.

Jane
Gerlach, CNM
“I
feel privileged to be present to so many
women during the changes of their lives,
to hear their stories and to witness
their strength, compassion, humor and
persistence. I love the intelligence in
our bodies, and how we can work with the
wisdom of the body to keep us healthy.
I believe that women’s health includes
the body, mind, and spirit of the woman
and more. Woman’s health is relational.
Our communications with others, the
health of our children and partners, the
health of our community, both locally
and the world, influences our health and
well being.”
Jane obtained a diploma in nursing at
the Hospital of the University of
Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 1974,
and a Bachelor’s in Nursing at Boston
College in 1976.
She completed her midwifery education at
the University of Utah in 1981 and has
been working in women’s health care in
Maine since 1982 in a variety of
settings.
Jane is mother of two grown sons. She
lives in Sullivan since she joined Maine
Coast Woman Care, and is enjoying the
beauty of the down east landscape and
people.
She enjoys the practice of yoga, food,
music, solitude, conversation, and most
of what the world has thrown her way,
including (in recent years) lima beans.

Diane Fehrenbach, RN CNM
Diane
began her life as a middle child in a
family of eleven children. She has six
living sisters, two living brothers,
fifteen nieces and nephews, one
wonderful son, three old dogs, a loving
supportive partner, and many good
friends, all of whom she would have
difficulty living without. Diane has
maintained a lifestyle which bolsters
her interest, respect, and enjoyment of
people.
Diane’s path to nurse-midwifery began
with a diploma in nursing from St.
Joseph Hospital School of Nursing,
Bangor, in 1983, and a Bachelor of
Science of Human Services, 1993.
Both her professional and personal work
guided Diane to graduate work in nursing
at the Frontier School of Midwifery and
Family Nursing, Community Based Program
in Hyden Kentucky and Case Western
Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. She
became a Certified Nurse Midwife in 1997
and has been practicing full-scope
midwifery in the Ellsworth community
since that time.
Diane is spirited by the opportunity to
continue working and learning with her
colleagues at Maine Coast Women Care and the Downeast Community. She will also
continue to pursue her interests in the
outdoors and yoga; as well as both
allopathic and alternative health care
models that support the fact that all
women know their bodies better than
anyone.

Renata
Moise, RN CNM
"I enjoy all facets of my practice,
and feel honored to participate in the
miraculous events of the birth process."
Renata grew up on a small farm in
Hancock. The only child of an artist
father and a general practitioner
mother; her early experiences helped
shape a great love for the beauty of the
natural world and a curiosity to
understand the “why” of life. The art
and science of midwifery felt like a
perfect fit from a young age.
Renata entered the R.N. diploma program
at E.M.M.C. in Bangor, Maine in 1981
with the plan to become a Nurse Midwife.
Life brought other interesting
experiences (as it always does). Renata
worked as an R.N. in many areas of
nursing, as well as in obstetrics,
obtaining her B.S.N. from the University
of Maine, Orono in 1991. In 1994 she
graduated from the University of
Pennsylvania with a Masters in Nursing,
specialty Nurse Midwifery. In 1995 she
returned to practice in the Downeast
Maine area; since 1998 working with both
Diane Ferenbach, CNM and Carole Ray, RN.
Renata loves living and working in her
hometown community, helping women of all
ages with issues related to wellness,
sexuality, and childbearing. Renata
lives in Hancock with her husband and
spends free time kayaking, belly
dancing, and painting. She has one son,
born in 1984, now grown but, of course,
never far from her mind.

All our births take place at Maine Coast

should be as comfortable and at ease as
possible when visiting the clinical
setting. She recognizes that each
patient has individual needs and strives
to provide efficient and compassionate
care. To Carole there is no such thing
as a stupid question. She enjoys her
roll in welcoming longtime patient

having, take your blood pressure and weight
in preparation for your visit, and she is
a great detective when researching your long
lost medical records from other states or

Nancy Patterson recently joined the
wonderful MCWC team in early July.
Graduating with an associates degree in
business management from Valley Forge
College, Nancy has almost ten years of
office management experience, most of which
has been in the healthcare profession.
Nancy believes her role, overseeing
day-to-day administrative operations at MCWC,
is most effective with a hands-on approach.
“This allows me not only to better
understand the flow and routine of the
office, it allows me the opportunity to
really get to know the wonderful women that
we serve everyday.” “I am just an added
piece to this already fantastic team of
Providers and support staff!”
In her spare time Nancy enjoys spending time
with her husband of almost 13 years, along

enjoying Bar Harbor, where she resides, and
the beautiful Acadia region that she feels
