Services

• Vascular surgery services are now available locally at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, saving patients and their family members from traveling distances to obtain these vital procedures. Surgeons Charles E. Hendricks, MD, and Michael J. Mason, MD, of Eden Surgical Associates, PA, will now be routinely providing vascular surgical procedures in the hospital operating rooms. Dr. Hendricks has been providing this service at MDI Hospital for the past 10 years.
  
  The needed equipment and instruments for vascular surgery were made possible by generous donations from over 170 people and businesses via an appeal in March 2001.
  
  The area of vascular surgery includes dialysis access for patients in renal failure, surgery to leg arteries to improve blood flow, aortic aneurysm surgery for enlargement of the major vessel supplying the lower extremities to prevent rupture, varicose vein surgery to relieve pain in affected vessels and carotid endarterectomy surgery on major blood vessels to improve blood flow to the brain and for prevention of strokes.
