The Rehabilitation Department at Maine Coast Memorial
Hospital is pleased to offer “The McKenzie Approach” to
patients with neck and back pain. Eighty percent of the
population worldwide will suffer from back pain at least
once in their life. Back pain is the second leading
cause of physician visits among adults in the United
States. Each day between seven and nine million people
are not at work because of back pain.
About
-
What is the McKenzie Approach?
The McKenzie method is a treatment approach for
common neck and back conditions. It emphasizes
intervention and prevention and provides the patient
with lifelong pain management skills. It has proven
to be both cost and time effective as a treatment
approach.
Originally developed by New Zealand Physical
Therapist Robin McKenzie, this method has become
accepted and used worldwide for the treatment of
mechanical spinal pain.
This program is continuing to grow and develop, and
McKenzie treatment is available to patients in
Ellsworth and at our off-site clinics. Several
therapist have advanced training in the McKenzie
approach for spinal RX. We are pleased to offer this
type of recognized treatment by specially trained
therapists and look forward to the continued success
of the program in helping patients manage their
spinal pain.
