The Key is to Know about Diabetes so YOU Take Charge and Control It!

Diabetes is a life long disease that won't go away by not thinking about it. You need to take control and learn about how to feel well and prevent late health problems.

Maine Coast Memorial Hospital has group diabetes education classes. There are five 2-hour classes. You also have a one hour pre-assessment with a nurse and a one-and-a-half hour assessment and meal planning session with a dietitian before classes begin. There are two follow up classes at 3 and 6 months after initial classes and a one-to-one assessment a year after completing the program.

      •   Food labels
      •   Diet
      •   Stress, exercise and illness
      •   Living with diabetes

Payment
With a physician's referral, many health insurance plans will cover at least part of the cost of the program. Check with your insurance to be sure.
