This year four outstanding Maine Coast Memorial Hospital nurses accepted the challenge to enhance their clinical advancement. Each voluntarily submitted applications for clinical ladder status. Once selected for the program, each nurse then selected from a menu of established criteria those new skill areas from which they would gain both personal growth and professional skills. It should be noted that not only did the criteria focus on nursing skills but also addressed community involvement, such as volunteering with ambulance, fire departments, life skill teaching and working with service organizations.
According to Barbara Beal, Vice President of Nursing, “This is a serious effort to promote a higher level of care at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. The selection process for enrollment is stiff and the requirements for successfully meeting the program’s goals are no walk in the park. I am personally proud of these recipients. They are examples to us all.” 2006 Clinical Ladder Recipients are Carol Smith, RN, BSN, COHN-S, Bailey Johnson, RN, Carrie Barnes, RN and Mary Brown, RN.
