Dear Friends:
As is the case with all medical facilities,
Maine Coast Memorial Hospital struggles with the prioritizing of
medical equipment purchases necessary to provide
state-of-the-art patient care. Such purchases are very often
outside the limits of annual budgets, and we rely on the support
of the community to assist in the acquisition of needed
diagnostic tools.

The caseload of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital’s Emergency
Department is ever increasing and as you well know, time is of
the utmost importance in appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
The sharing of diagnostic equipment with other departments has
been the norm, but all too often emergency patients must wait a
few hours for the equipment to become available.

The Emergency Department Staff has researched a portable
ultrasound unit that will provide answers in minutes rather than
hours. With this technology, caregivers receive the information
they need more quickly, and therefore can more effectively plan
and implement the next step in the patient’s care in the
Emergency Department rather than in other areas of the hospital.
This bedside unit is non-invasive, uses no radiation and
requires no injections of dyes or chemicals.
A bedside ultrasound unit will afford the abilities to determine
within minutes whether the patient has internal bleeding and
requires emergency surgery, follow state-of-the-art guidelines
allowing safer insertion of central vascular lines, localize
abscesses and cutaneous foreign bodies, and rapidly evaluate the
presence of gallstones or ectopic pregnancy. Such a unit allows
patients to remain in the safety of the Emergency Department
rather than to be imaged elsewhere in the hospital. The
portability, durability and wireless technology of the bedside
ultrasound unit will allow its use throughout the hospital when
it is not being utilized in the Emergency Department.
Our continuing to offer the highest quality of medical care to
Downeast Maine and beyond is, in large part, due to the
generosity of friends such as you to whom we so often turn. The
unit cost of this important diagnostic tool is $47,500 – an
amount just outside this year’s budget. I believe this to be a
vital piece of equipment for emergency treatment and ask for
your consideration of my request for assistance. As with past
requests, an informational brochure in enclosed for your review.
On behalf of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, I thank you for your
continuing friendship and support.
Sincerely,
Kenneth G. Christian, MD

an Ultrasound Revolution |
A technological breakthrough in
image quality and portability
that allows you to produce
high-quality ultrasound images
in
seconds that could save a life. |
|

Wireless portable performance
provides amazing image quality |
The idea behind the MicroMaxx
ultrasound system is to give
you the maximum functionality of
larger ultrasound systems in
a unit that goes to the point of
care. A hand-carried unit, only
8 pounds, and no bigger than
your average laptop, provides
portability for immediate usage.
With wireless data transfer
technology, you stay mobile
while records stay updated. |
|

Durable, reliable and easy to
use |
The MicroMaxx was originally
commissioned by the military to
be tough enough for the
battlefield. In other words,
it’s built to
withstand the kind of abuse any
clinic or hospital dishes out
day
to day. With embedded software,
this system is capable of a
cold start-up in under 15
seconds and designed to help
prevent
system crashes. The system
simply uses a keyboard for quick
and easy functionality and
includes a Triple Transducer
Connect,
so with a simple press of a
button you can have three users
at the same time. |
