Community Support
What good friends do to make life better for all of us...

Gifts of money and priceless in-kind volunteerism combined parlayed to over $786,000 in contributions during fiscal year 2005-2006. The following highlights needs successfully funded through donor appeals and special events:

New Cardio/Pulmonary Rehab Monitors

An appeal by Douglas Trenkle, DO resulted in you giving $41,808.11. It allowed the replacement of a monitoring system passed down from the Intensive Care Unit 10 years ago. Hundreds of patients will benefit from the technology and safety offered by this vital equipment. It provides for a better quality of life. Thanks again to the 209 people who made this possible.

Bob Begley cranks his way to renewed health while being safely monitored thanks to donors who gave over $41,000.

Newly completed Med/Surg nursing station – a gift of sponsors and patron of the Poinsettia Ball.

Nursing Station Center

R. H. Foster Energy and Machias Savings Bank Poinsettia Ball Nets Receipts of $29,000 to Fund New Nursing Station Center
The nursing center station was more than 25 years old. It was out of date. It was inefficient. Now, thanks to community support there is a new nursing station center. This modern, user-friendly nursing station now exists on the medical surgical floor.

New Birthing Bed and Bassinet for Maternity Unit

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Open Golf Tournament Funds New Birthing Bed and Bassinet for Maternity Unit
The 15th annual golf event at the Bar Harbor Golf Course and Northeast Harbor Golf Course provided $14,400 for a new birthing bed. Deliveries at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital are growing by over 22% a year. This year the Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Open also funded a new $1,330 bassinet and provided over $6,000 in scholarship grants for special garments used in the treatment of lymphedema.

BHBT President and CEO Joe Murphy always carries double when it comes to community needs.

Maybe a chair from the space shuttle? It’s a new birthing bed for the hospital’s OB Unit thanks to BHBT and 379 golfers at this year’s Open.

New Defibrillators

The heartwarming and overwhelming support of Dr. Kenneth Christian’s appeal provided many new defibrillators throughout the critical areas of the hospital.

"Everyone is so wonderful. I am so
humbled. How can I ever that you all?"
